10 Impressive Celebrity Watch Collections

FROM CLAPTON TO GOSLING

Whoever indulges in Hedonism likewise has an affinity for luxury watches. Let’s get this right out of the way: many famous actors and movie stars appear to confirm this stereotype as their collections are dominated by top-tier brands such as Rolex and Patek Philippe. That being said, here are 10 of the most impressive watch collections straight from some of the biggest names in the U.S. entertainment industry.

Eric Clapton

Eric Clapton is a famous watch connoisseur and Rolex enthusiast. He’s often spotted wearing a Rolex Milgauss but also enjoys strapping on a Datejust in steel as well as a Day Date in yellow gold. Along with other Rolex models like a Turn-O-Graph, a Submariner and a GMT Master his collection once had a revered spot for a Patek Philippe Ref. 2499 in platinum, a model that has only ever been produced twice. In 2012, Clapton’s piece raised nearly 2.5 million GBP at a charity auction. He’s also auctioned off other watches from his personal collection for a good cause e.g. a prototype Yachtmaster Daytona, a Daytona “Paul Newman” with its typical contrasting colour scheme, black totalisers, and a light coloured face, as well as an albino Daytona version with a completely white dial.

Sylvester Stallone

Sylvester Stallone has been a longtime fan and emissary of Panerai. Hardly anyone can pull off wearing its large size, unmistakable designs as well as this larger than life movie actor. He’s often seen with his Luminor Regatta 1950 Rattrapante. He also owns a Luminor PAM127 (depicted above), a Luminor Submersible Chrono, and an Egiziano Limited Edition. Along with his close connection to the Panerai brand, “Sly” is also a big Rolex fan and has a Submariner and a Day-Date in his collection of high end watches.

John Mayer

John Mayer’s appreciation for the beautiful things in life is reflected in his passion for acquiring luxury timekeepers, which first began with a Rolex Explorer. He slowly expanded upon it with choice pieces that reflected the refined tastes of a serious watch collector. His collection also includes multiple timekeepers from Patek Philippe e.g. an elaborate chronograph and perpetual calendar combo as well as a Ref. 5396G (one from a 100 limited piece edition).

If rumour mongering is to be believed, then Mayer’s substantial watch amassment has a total worth measuring in the multi-millions. It’s not surprising that the following list of Mayer’s collection is more than likely nowhere near complete: Rolex Explorer II, Patek Philippe 5396G L.E., Patek Philippe 5164 “Travel Timer”, Patek Philippe 5970, Rolex 6263 “Paul Newman” Daytona with a black dial, Rolex GMT with a blue-black bezel, IWC Big Pilot Reference 5002, a Patek Philippe Perpetual Calendar Chronograph 5970, as well as some Vintage Submariners.

Charlie Sheen

Charlie Sheen’s watch collection is estimated to have a total worth of a bit over 4 million GBP. His most prized possessions include highly sought after timepieces from Patek Philippe. He also once owned a Ref. 5970P with a perpetual calendar in his collection. However it ultimately disappeared under, what can only be described as, mysterious circumstances (it’s Charlie Sheen after all folks, who knows really). The total worth of this perpetual calendar watch: nearly 100.000 GBP.

A Patek Philippe with a moon phase display (Ref. 2438J) as well a Rolex Yacht-Master in platinum also hold respectable positions in this Hollywood actor’s watch repository. While the football player George Best is well-known for having given out the better half of his fortune for women and cars, he “squandered” the other half in best excess fashion. If cars could be replaced by watches, then this quote could have easily come from The Sheen.

Orlando Bloom

Among this famous Lord of the Rings actor’s collection are innumerable Rolex vintage models e.g. the GMT Master, a Submariner, as well as an anti-magnetic 1950 Milgauss which can easily go for a sum of about 157.000 GBP on its own. In 2009, he auctioned off a 1973 Explorer II “Steve McQueen”. Bloom also calls an IWC Big Pilot Classic and a Panerai Luminor PAM127 alongside other watch models his own.

Brad Pitt

Of course, Brad Pitt can’t be missing from our list. He places his faith in the luxury services of his Patek Phiippe Nautilus in a classic version with a dark blue dial. He’s also frequently seen while wearing a Rolex Day-Date “President” in gold strapped to his wrist. Along with a GMT and a Daytona in steel with a white dial, these are just some of the Rolex timekeepers in his extensive assortment of watches. Pitt definitely dug deep into his pockets for his wife Angelina Jolie when he gave her a Patek Philippe Ref. 7500 with a minute repeater as a present for almost 277.000 GBP.

Seal

The high end watch brand Richard Mille is well-known for its sporty and race car inspired designs, which also happen to reflect the personal tastes of the singer Seal. So much so that he was more than willing to spend nearly 333.000 GBP for his very own Richard Mille. Admittedly, Seal isn’t the best representation of a large amount of watch collection variety, nor has he built it explicitly in one direction or another with any specific kind of affinity. However, he’s made the cut as our wildcard for this list since he gave out so much money for just one single watch.

Jennifer Aniston

Jennifer Aniston must be confronted with a difficult dilemma every morning when deliberating which Rolex to wear for the day. She isn’t just in possession of a ladies 34 mm Rolex Datejust in steel, but also a Rolex Day Date “President” in gold. Besides this classic Rolex, she also has a customised Rolex Milgauss with a DLC coating in matte-black.

Jay-Z

Jay-Z belongs to the rappers whose appreciation for timekeepers goes way over the rap game’s love of clunky, shiny gold, gaudy wrist bling. In terms of style: Jay-Z is as versatile as they come and owns a Hublot Classique, a Richard Mille RM027 Tourbillon, and a Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso Ultra Thin Tribute to 1931.

Ryan Gosling

Ryan Gosling is inclined towards minimalism in his taste of timekeepers. We especially like his Jaeger-LeCoultre Vintage Memovox. Multiple replica models based on a Patek Philippe Calatrava 5196G in white gold were used during the shooting of his movie Drive. Allegedly, Gosling and the director, Nicolas Winding, voted on the choice of the watch for the flick. As production ended, Gosling requested to hold on to a version for himself as a keepsake. Eventually, he ended up purchasing a real Calatrava version and he’s been frequently spotted with it on his wrist ever since. As they say in Hollywood, that’s a wrap people!
