Baltic Aquascaphe Bronze Blue Gilt: The success story continues

In the world of microbrands, Baltic Watches is one of the greats. The young brand, which was only founded in 2017 by the Frenchman Etienne Malec, has written a real success story with the “Aquascaphe” model ever since. This is now to be continued with an Aquascaphe model in a new guise.

If you want to know what makes this watch so special, make sure to also head over to our in-depth video review.

The popularity of bronze – which has always been inseparably linked to seafaring – has increased considerably in the watch industry in recent years. Although (or perhaps because) the alloy develops a distinct patina over time, the material has turned into an obvious choice for many watch brands’ maritime novelties. The same is true for new diver of the Aquascaphe collection.

In terms of case dimensions and inner life, nothing has changed for the bronze version. In concrete terms, this means that the automatic caliber Miyota 9039 still sets the pace in a 39mm case. Despite the domed sapphire crystal, the watch is only 12mm high, thanks to the flat movement.

What has changed, however, is the fact that the crown on the right side of the case is now protected by crown guards and the triangular “sandwich indices” at 3, 6 and 9 o’clock have been replaced by Arabic numerals. In addition, the bezel is no longer made of sapphire crystal, but from now on also of bronze. If a thing is worth doing, it’s worth doing well.
