Baselworld 2019: Interview with Tutima’s Head of Production Alexander Philipp

BASELWORLD 2019

Tutima, the traditional German watch manufacturer from Glashütte, is approaching its 100th anniversary. As early as 1926, the lawyer Ernst Kurtz founded the company, which continues to perform its work successfully to this day. Also, the brand is widely known for its titanium pilot’s chronograph, which is provides for the German Armed Forces.

It goes without saying that Tutima hence masters pilot watches. So, it is not surprising that the traditional Glashütte brand has remained true to its great strength by launching the new Tutima Flieger. It’s a sporty and elegant watch with a night-green dial pays hommage to the company’s legacy. The second watch that Tutima’s Production Manager Alexander Philipp introduces us to in our interview at Baselworld 2019 is a real bang for the buck. With the Patria Admiral Blue, Tutima shows a watch in a 43mm stainless steel case that houses Tutima’s in-house caliber 617. This very movement is also used in the brand’s much higher-priced gold watches. The deep blue enamel dial perfectly matches the alligator leather strap. The price? Just shy of 5000€. This watch is really a great way to make high-end Glashütte watchmaking accessible to the masses.
