Best of 50s with MeisterSinger’s new Neo Bordeaux Dégradé

Each decade has its own characteristics when it comes to design features. In the 50s, for example, everything was under the motto “Mid-century modern”, a style that paired innovative and experimental designs with organic and flowing forms. In this design movement, one looks in vain for ornate pomp and over-the-top flamboyance; instead, the focus is on reduced geometric forms – similar to the motto “form follows function”.

As far as the color scheme is concerned, the focus is not only on warm earthy tones but also on bright and loud primary colors, which set the appropriate accents – whether it is in architecture, product or graphic design.

With the new Neo Bordeaux Dégradé, MeisterSinger has created a watch that captures precisely these design elements and could therefore be of interest to watch fans and nostalgics alike.

Bordeaux red dial with color gradient

Immediately, the most obvious update to the new Neo Bordeaux Dégradé jumps right at you: the deep red dial, which MeisterSinger calls “Bordeaux Degradé.” A closer look reveals that the rich red dial fades into black towards the edge – hence the degradé in the name.

Above, the white needle hand makes its rounds, crossing the 144 five-minute markers twice a day. (If you want to learn more about why MeisterSinger watches look the way they do and how exactly they are read, we recommend the following article with plenty of background knowledge).

MeisterSinger has decided to offer the watch in two case sizes, which we applaud. With a shared height of only 9.7mm, the new Neo Bordeaux Dégradé is available in either a 36mm or 40mm diameter. Particularly true to history is the hardened plastic crystal, which, in contrast to sapphire crystal, is much more in keeping with the spirit of the 1950s.

Inside the case is the SW 200 is at work, a movement that is a welcome permanent guest at MeisterSinger. For good reason: the automatic movement runs at a frequency of 28,800 beats per minute (4hz) and is considered extremely reliable and low-maintenance. In addition to a power reserve of 38 hours, it offers a date display at 6 o’clock, made possible by a circular aperture above the 6 o’clock index.
