Breitling Colt – Sporty military flair on the wrist
Since their introduction in the 1980s, Breitling Colt watches have been the epitome of robustness and reliability. The forerunner of today’s Colt collection goes by the name of “Colt Military”, which, as the name suggests, was developed for the armed forces. Colt watches thus have always had to meet the most extreme requirements. This has changed little over the decades.
Since its debut, a watch from the Colt collection has been regarded as the entry into the prestigious Breitling world, which is certainly one of the reasons why it continues to enjoy unbroken popularity. Despite their comparatively low price, the watches are nevertheless full to the brim with state-of-the-art technology that makes the heart of every watch enthusiast beat faster.
Thanks to the standard anti-reflective sapphire crystal on both sides and the generously applied luminous material, Colt watches always guarantee perfect readability even under difficult conditions. Furthermore, they can also be easily considered as diving watches: Most Colts are 200m waterproof and with their unidirectional satin finish bezel, which is an essential design feature of the collection with its four raised riders, are predestined for use in the water. Due to this unique design, the handy bezel can theoretically also be operated blindly.
Along with the Avenger and Superocean models, the Colt watches belong to Breitling’s Aeromarine family and are among the brand’s absolute top sellers, not least because of their convincing price-performance ratio and sporty character. The dial is available in several different colours (black, silver, grey, blue) and the bracelet is moreover available in leather, rubber and stainless steel.
The Colt collection currently comprises four different types: Quartz, automatic, lady and chronograph. The special thing about the quartz movements is that they are Breitling’s patented SuperQuartz™, which runs ten times more accurately than conventional quartz movements. However, there is no need either for the automatic movements to hide behind the Quartz models in terms of accuracy, as they all come with the Chronometer-certified caliber 17, which meets the strict COSC requirements.
Breitling also offers Colt chronographs, boasting a flyback function that can measure a tenth of a second. Finally, there are also ladies’ versions (“Colt Lady”), which with their reduced diameter of 33mm were specially designed for slimmer ladies’ wrists. The polished case and the option of a diamond encrusted bezel emphasise the feminine character of the ladies’ version.
Anyone looking for a reliable, robust and, above all, affordable watch for every day should include the Colt collection in their shortlist. Few established brands like Breitling offer that much watch at a comparable price point.
Breitling Colt – Top Facts
33 – 45: 33 – 45m
It is no secret that Breitling watches are generally not among the smallest on the market. Nevertheless, the brand also offers a separate ladies’ version of Colt watches for smaller wrists, so that with diameters from 33 to 45 millimetres there should really be something for every Colt fan.
200: Waterproof up to 200m
Thanks to the water resistance of 200m, the generous lume and the unidirectional rotating bezel, most Colt models also make for an excellent dive watch.
10: 10 seconds per year
Quartz movements are already known for their high precision, but with the patented SuperQuartz™ Breitling goes a big step further: movements that can be called this way run considerably more precisely than normal quartz movements and show a deviation of only 10 seconds per year. Impressive.
1894: Breitling since 1894
Breitling has been building first-class watches since 1894, which makes the watch manufacturer one of the largest in the Swiss watch industry. Colt watches are therefore subject to the strictest quality standards, so that a Colt watch is something to be enjoyed for a lifetime.
