First introduced to the public at Baselworld 2015, the Zenith Elite Chronograph Classic isn’t just banking on sophisticated optics. It also has some serious tech running underneath. Right off the bat: The Elite Chronograph Classic has a timeless style, that’s going for a more refined or modern professional look. It’s a classic, two register, chronograph measuring in at 42 mm and comes in both a stainless steel and a rose gold version. It has a silver dial with faceted Rhodium or gold plated watch hands. Its non-intrusive 30 minute counter is placed at 3 and its running seconds at the 9 o’clock positions. There’s no dial overload or chronograph overcrowding to be found on its face and the clean 50’s style dial and very thin case in pebble stone form hint at touches of minimisation. Its sapphire glass is anti-glare coated and slightly arched, providing excellent legibility. Engraved indices cause an optical illusion on the wrist, appearing to slightly protrude from the watch’s dial. The Elite Chronograph Classic has a fluted crown and rectangular formed pushers. Ergonomically shaped lugs also provide it with a fluid, user-friendly feel when worn. Brownie points: They won’t be digging into your wrist by any overexertion at strenuous cocktail party activities.
An El Primero 4069 calibre with an automatic winding mechanism and an integrated column wheel is the engine that drives this new timepiece. It oscillates at a frequency of 36,000 per hour and has a power reserve of 100 hours. The sapphire glass on the case back showcases the mechanics of the 4069 as well the oscillating weight, which has the Zenith Star tagged upon it. The caseback is also alternatively sandblasted or polished and the entire watch is water resistant up to 50 metres. The watch straps come in two different versions; black (stainless steel) or brown (rose gold) alligator leather with rubber lining and a triple folding clasp. With only a total of 150 pieces created to celebrate Zenith’s 150th year anniversary (in 2015), it’s an extremely limited edition line. The stainless steel will set you back roughly 6,100.- GBP while the L.E. in rose gold will run for about 14,700.- GBP.
