Hard on the heels of the press releases for the Grand Seiko Limited Editions in blue, images of a very special edition are reaching us – this time with a touch of red. In collaboration with the AJHH (Japanese Association of Haute Horlogerie), Grand Seiko has produced a limited edition of the Snowflake, which will be exclusively available in selected boutiques in Japan starting on February 21.
The SBGA421 follows the form of the Snowflake, which means that we again have a 41 mm titanium case and high-gloss surfaces, polished using the Zaratsu technique. And, perhaps most importantly, the uniquely beautiful dial with the look of freshly fallen snow remains. The new watch adds its own new and special accents, however – we now have a bright red ring around the dial, and the second hand, the power reserve hand and the “Spring Drive” lettering have taken on the same color.
The sapphire crystal of the display caseback is also red, quite unusual but consistent with this new design, and appropriate as an allusion to the red sun of the Japanese flag.
The whole comes as a set with a blue alligator leather strap and is limited to 390 pieces – an unusually low number for Grand Seiko. The price is 690,000 yen, which translates to just under 5700 Euros. If you’re already reaching for your credit card, be prepared to charge some plane tickets as well, because this model will only be available in Japan, appearing in selected Grand Seiko boutiques on the 21st of February.
