Chrono 4 “21-42”; Eberhard Celebrates 20 Years

The iconic Chrono 4 by Eberhard & Co; which revolutionised the way time is read at the beginning of the Third millennium. Four aligned counters, two different bezels and the unusual dials that are eye-catching in of themselves (Soleil and Clous de Paris): these are the stand-out features of the Chrono 4 “21-42”. For this anniversary, let’s take a closer look at this new generation of an icon.

Never Seen Before

Eberhard, the Swiss watch brand founded in 1887 by Georges-Lucien Eberhard, has always been synonymous with the Swiss art of watchmaking for precision as well as innovation. It all started with pocket watches, until 1919 when the first Eberhard wristwatch was launched. Constant research and innovation bring more and more sophisticated models – such as the brand’s first chronograph with hour counters and then years later, in 2001, the successful patented chronograph with all four counters in a single row, something that had never been seen before in the history of watchmaking: a modification that was technically challenging for then-CEO Palmiro Monti. 20 years later, the innovation returns in an exciting new version.

“Pioneer by Nature”

New technical features and elegant, unique design arouse curiosity. The two new models, “21-42” – in stainless steel or ceramic, with numerous dial variations – are singular in appearance and invite more than a second glance. One can’t take their eyes off the 42 mm automatic chronographs with the 4 counters set in a line next to each other: Minutes, hours, 24 hours and small seconds.

Here tradition and innovation merge. The caseback is engraved with the name of the chronograph and ceramic pyramids decorate the screwed steel crown. The chronograph is proposed in dfferent dial versions – with Clous de Paris or Soleil finishing – all with azure counters. With a choice of straps in alligator leather, rubber or the Chaque steel bracelet there is something for every taste. The date can be read at 12 o’clock, and inside the proven EB251 calibre remains unchanged.

The new edition is just as exciting as the original model, but continues the story of innovation and experience of Eberhard watches combining the knowledge of almost 140 years of watchmaking. This is how to wear tradition and innovation with that certain something on your wrist!
