In this video we will show you how to properly set your quick-set date, without potentially damaging your watch. A quick date function makes setting the date a lot easier, as you can simply use the middle crown position to change the date, without running through the 24-hour count over and over again.
Here, we have a watch with a day-date indication, if you screw the crown counterclockwise, the indication will move forward. Bear in mind, you can risk damaging the date function when using the quick-set date, especially when the mechanics are engaged with the automatic date shift around midnight. So how can you avoid that from happening?
First, pull the crown to the outermost position. Before using the quick-set date, position the hour hand in the lower half of the dial to avoid the hour hand being anywhere near the 12 o’clock position. It is because you could risk damaging the date function, when the mechanics are engaged with the automatic date shift. Although the day has 24 hours, an analogue wrist watch with date function only has a 12 -hour count. There are alternate cycles, with and without date changes. Since you can’t always be certain if the date is going to change when the hour hand approaches 12 o’clock, To avoid that from happening, you should always position the hour hand in the lower half of the dial. Once the time is adjusted push the crown halfway in, you’re ready to use the quick set date.
For some movements, it can be tricky to find the right spot for changing the date. If that’s the case, try pushing the crown all the way in first. Then pull it out slightly to reach the middle position of the crown. You can now easily change the date until you have the current day of the month showing the middle position of the crown Once the date is adjusted, pull the crown to the outermost position, where you can securely adjust the minute and hour hand.
