Inspired by aviation icons: Longines new Spirit collection

Under the motto “The pioneer spirit lives on”, Longines has launched a new collection of pilot’s watches by the name of Spirit. The models pay tribute to the aviation pioneering spirit of the 1920s and 1930s and to numerous aviation icons who wore Longines watches on their daring adventures. Above all, the Saint-Imier brand names aviation pioneers such as Amelia Earhart, Paul-Émile Victor, Elinor Smith and Howard Hughes.

New three-hand watches and chronograph

The agony of choice.

Basically, as a potential buyer of the new Spirit watches, you have a huge choice: The new collection is divided into three-handers (in 40 and 42mm) and chronographs (42mm). These are available in three different colours (black, blue and silver) and come on either leather, NATO or stainless steel bracelets.

Historical reminiscence meets modern tech

Five stars as a sign of excellence.

The five stars on the dial, which can be found throughout the entire new Spirit collection, recall earlier Longines references. In these, the stars were used to indicate first-class calibres. However, it is not all historical: The ETA-based automatic movements in use (L888.4 and L688.4) are COSC-certified and feature modern silicon hairsprings that are particularly wear-resistant and anti-magnetic.

As far as pricing is concerned, there are no big surprises here either – typical Longines: Prices for the three-hand watches on the leather strap start at €2,000, while the chronographs are priced at a fair €2,900. (Note: For 2.600€ you can also purchase the three-hand watch as a Prestige Edition, which then includes leather, steel as well as NATO strap.)

Grippy crown, lots of luminous material and maximum contrast – a typical pilot’s watch.
