Introducing the Second Hour Watches Mandala MKII

The evolution of Second Hour’s slim Japanese automatic watch.

A Worthy Follow Up

Following on from the incredible sell out success of the first generation Mandala in 2021, Second Hour have been quietly working away on the second generation of their slim, 40mm, Japanese automatic watch that blends the psychedelic, the sacred and the mechanical.

Recently launched, the Mandala MKII is a gentle evolution of a winning design. Formed from 316L stainless steel, that is then treated with a special scratch resistant coating, the case, bracelet and clasp of the Mandala MKII are rated to a hardness value of 800HV on the Vickers scale, perfect for those of us who like to wear out watches day in, day out. Which is also how Second Hour sees the Mandala MKII – a “sporty dress watch” that’s as at home in the boardroom as it is on the beach.

We are pleased to report that this is very much the case. The combination of a rugged, hard wearing, highly water resistant steel watch, with a bomb proof Japanese Miyota automatic movement with custom rotor and a choice of 6 stunningly detailed dials, ticks all of the right boxes.

Crisp, Clean and Refined

Aesthetically speaking, the best words to describe the Mandala MKII are undoubtedly; “crisp”, “clean” and “refined”. Second Hour clearly pay a lot of attention to details, and as a result the standard of finishing is extremely high – From the sharp lines of the multifaceted case bevels, to the fork-tipped diamond cut hour and minute hands, and the hypnotically beautiful multi-layered geometric patterned dial.

Speaking of the dial, with the second generation Mandala, you have a selection of updated dials to choose from, featuring the new Second Hour logo, colour coded outer track and additional gilt details on the Deep Green and Deep Blue versions. In a further evolutionary leap, Second Hour has introduced a new Pale Gold dial for the MKII, which has a lovely rich champagne tone that contrasts beautifully with the crisp white of the angled second track and Superluminova filled hour markers and hands.

The Mandala MKII comes fitted with a 9 link stainless steel bracelet that tapers from 20mm at the lugs to 18mm at the push button deployment clasp, which features 4 levels of micro adjustment. It also comes with a luxurious zip-up travel case!

The Mandala MKII is available now from Second Hour, priced at $825 plus taxes and shipping.
