Kickstarter Watch of the Week: Bólido X

Whilst searching for our newest Kickstarter Watch of the Week, we came across the Bólido X. Bólido is Spanish for “meteor”, and Meteors are better known as shooting stars. If your longing for a watch with a unique design and high quality beyond the mainstream, the Bólido X could make your dreams come true – without shooting stars.

A Meteor on the Road to Success

The Bólido brand is no newcomer to Kickstarter. The Swiss watch manufacturer has already successfully completed two campaigns. Bólido does not make use of old, proven designs, but instead brings innovation to a sometimes rather slow-moving industry with its own unique designs. Nevertheless, the typical Swiss qualities are offered (which we as watch lovers appreciate so much), and all without the usual Swiss prices (which we often don’t appreciate so much). More information about the brand can be found first-hand from Bólido founder Pierre Nobs in the following video:

You don’t need to prove to anyone that watches from Bólido stand for quality and extraordinary designs. In 2018, the brand even won the renowned Red Dot Design Award. This put the company on a par with industrial heavyweights such as Bulgari, TAG Heuer, Junghans and Zenith. The new Bólido X seamlessly continues the design language of its predecessors.

The External Values

The first thing you notice about Bólido X is its unusual design. The shape of the case alone, with its characteristic inclination, clearly distinguishes the Bólido X from ordinary wristwatches. Searching for lugs on the case would be in vain; a circumstance that makes the watch appear compact despite its considerable circumference of 45mm, and results in a particularly round shape. The asymmetrical height created by the inclination makes the 12 o’clock position ideal for the crown.

Without a doubt, one of the highlights of the Bólido X is its bezel, which immediately catches the eye with its diamond-cut knurling. The customer can choose between two versions: a model with a slide rule, which is ideal for everyday use to convert currencies, speeds, etc., and a classic version with residual time measurement, e.g. for parking times or meetings.

How the calculating disc works, is explained in the following video:

The back of the case reveals the caliber STP 1.11 © Bólido

The Bólido X was equipped with a Swiss movement in accordance with its status. With the STP 1.11, a definitive caliber was chosen, and one that can be serviced by any watchmaker without difficulty (since it is basically identical in construction to the legendary 2824 from ETA).

A special feature: For a small additional charge of CHF 110, Bólido offers to have the watch certified as a chronometer by COSC. This is a service that is extremely rarely offered in Kickstarter campaigns and which once again underlines the high quality standards and the trust in the company’s own watches.

Here are a few key details about the movement:

  • Swiss Time Precision Cal. STP 1.11
  • 26 jewels
  • 28,800 half oscillations per hour
  • 44 hour power reserve

On top of that there is a 2 year guarantee. Service centres have been installed in Switzerland, Germany, Japan and the USA to ensure comprehensive coverage.

Who Has the Choice, Is Spoilt for Choice

Our favourite of the four variations: The Bólido X LOG © Bólido

If you choose a Bólido X, you can choose between the Bólido X LOG (with slide rule) and the Bólido X CD (with remaining time measurement). Both versions can then be ordered either in satin-finished steel (Bólido X LOG and Bólido X CD) or sandblasted PVD (Bólido X LOG black and Bólido X CD black).

The watch comes with a sporty rubber strap as standard. But for a small extra charge you can also get an ostrich leather strap or a mesh steel bracelet included.

Bólido has announced that the latest Bólido X is their last campaign on Kickstarter – the very last chance to purchase a Bólido watch at a special price.

More information about Bólido X – and of course the special Kickstarter prices – can be found on the campaign page.
