TAG Heuer’s Diver Classic Gets An Update: TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300

Along with the Carrera models, the TAG Heuer Aquaracer is in a way the bread-and-butter collection of the Swiss watch manufacturer. Yet the collection is comparatively young compared to the company’s more than 160-year history:

It all started for the young collection with the Heuer 2000, which debuted in 1982 and was instrumental in helping TAG Heuer (or strictly speaking only Heuer at the time) gain its first reputation and notoriety in terms of diving watches. Subsequent efforts bore fruit, resulting in the TAG Heuer 2000 Aquaracer in 2004 – the watch that first included the word “Aquaracer” in its name. Since then, Aquaracer watches have been a staple in the brand’s portfolio due to their affordable price points and modern designs.

Aquaracer 300 Professional – The versatile everyday diver

Generally speaking, the collection will henceforth be available in two sizes, namely 36mm and 43mm. (Note: The focus of this article is on the larger version). This development is interesting in that TAG Heuer will thus offer one larger and one smaller model, but no medium-sized one like the 41mm predecessor.

In addition to a titanium version with a green dial, TAG Heuer keeps it fairly classic again with the dial color scheme, meaning that there should really be something for everyone with blue, black and gray.

Probably the biggest innovation that immediately catches the eye is the date window. Not only is it now located at 6 o’clock, which definitely benefits the symmetry of the dial, but it is also now enlarged by a round date magnifier.

Other minor changes, such as the omission of the “Calibre 5” lettering or the fact that the print no longer has its own recess, make the new watches look much tidier und less cluttered overall than their predecessors. Aspects such as the less dominant indices or the new plonguer-style hour hand are also only marginal changes in and of themselves, but they ultimately help the watches to have a somewhat more elegant appearance in their entirety.

This can also be seen well, for example, in the omission of the “claws” along the bezel, which is still 12-sided and made of ceramic, but now relies on a fluted knurling. Ultimately, in our eyes, this only underscores the already great suitability of the Aquaracer collection for everyday use yet again.

Calibre 5 for precision and longevity

Under the hood, you will find the Calibre 5 once again, which is ultimately a slightly modified Sellita SW200. The automatic caliber with ball-bearing central rotor and bilateral winding has always been a TAG Heuer classic and is known for its high reliability and precision, although the power autonomy of 38 hours is rather in the lower midfield by today’s standards.

Grade 2 titanium for extreme lightness

In addition to a total of six new stainless steel watches (or seven with a limited edition), TAG Heuer has also launched an Aquaracer Professional 300 in titanium, which features an ultra-light case complete with a sandblasted finish and green dial. Apart from that, the model with the ref. WBP208B.BF0631 is pretty much identical in construction to the other stainless steel watches with a 43mm diameter.
