Omega Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Alinghi – To the joint partnership

Omega and Alinghi, a successful Swiss sailing team (that also happened to be the first European team to ever win the prestigious America’s Cup in 2003), have been working together since 2019. To crown this partnership, Omega has now introduced a special Speedmaster watch from the Dark Side of the Moon series.

44.25 mm black ceramic

In contrast to the Speedmaster Moonwatch, Omega does not revert to the classic 42mm case, but adds 2.25mm to it for this watch. The case is made of an alloy called zirconium oxide ceramic, which is considered extremely resistant despite its low weight.

A closer look at the subdial at 6 o’clock reveals the red Alinghi logo printed on sandblasted, anodised aluminium. When the chronograph is operated, the logo actually begins to rotate. Another nice detail is the 4 or 5-minute tactical time display on the 3 o’clock subdial, providing more precision between the waves.

Special attention, however, goes to the caliber 1865, which has undergone an elaborate finishing process by Omega. The main plate for instance was given a honeycomb pattern by laser, which is reminiscent of the interior of an Alinghi catamaran’s hull. The second effect achieved on the remaining bridges, the black carbon pattern, gives the overall impression of a boat hull.

It is important to note at this point, however, that despite the watch’s maritime regatta theme, it is only water-resistant to 50m.

  1. Very nice watch, I am a big fan of the DSOTM collection.
It’s like a tech playground to the ordinary Speedmaster line.
