Hamilton has a rich history as an expert in pilot watches, especially in its early days as an American manufacturer: in 1918, it was Hamilton watches who helped pilots of the United States’ first airmail service to navigate. In both world wars, the company from Lancaster, Pennsylvania produced watches for the American armed forces; in World War II, the number of watches produced was more than 1 million. With this background and the rich experience in the field of pilot watches, Hamilton is constantly introducing new models of this kind, such as the new Khaki Aviation Converter collection.

The Khaki Aviation Converter is a pilot’s watch with slide rule for navigation, similar to the Breitling Navitimer and therefore a real piece of equipment. Friends of the simple instrument watch may be better served with the Khaki Pilot, or elsewhere with the IWC pilot’s watch. Pilot’s watches with slide rules were first patented in 1940 and are able to perform relatively complex calculations, such as multiplication, division, exponents, roots and logarithms, simply by moving the rotating bezel and reading the various scales on the dial. In times of completely analog aircraft without computers, such clocks were indispensable for various tasks.

The scale of the Khaki Aviation Converter is covered by hardened mineral glass and should therefore be sufficiently scratch-resistant for a pilot’s everyday life. Thanks to the deep notches, the bezel is easy to grip even in warm gloves. Although the concept is not new, this Hamilton is not just a new edition of a vintage watch, it is a completely new model with a classic but timeless design.

The Khaki Aviation Converter is available in 3 models and a total of 7 variants, all having the same design in common, luminous displays and indexes, an anti-reflective sapphire crystal and featuring 100m water resistance (very unusual for a pilot’s watch with slide rule). The 3 variations are each a normal three-hand watch, a watch with GMT function (second time zone) and a chronograph. They also all have anti-magnetic properties in common, which is very welcome in everyday life with mechanical watches – as it is possible to often encounter strong magnets, it is extremely welcome to not have to run to the watchmaker every time your watch becomes magnetized and therefore inaccurate.

All watches are available with a calfskin strap with crocodile print or with a stainless steel bracelet. The prices are, as usual with Hamilton, very customer-friendly: Starting at € 1,095 for the three-hand watch with leather strap up to € 2,045 for the chronograph with steel strap. The watches will be available shortly, and then of course – in our online store.
