Tonino Lamborghini “Cuscinetto”: the Watch With Something Extra

Charismatic and captivating: the “Cuscinetto” model from the luxury brand Tonino Lamborghini will make any watch enthusiast’s heart skip a beat.

Tonino Lamborghini: a Passion for Design and Fine Workmanship

It may be a foregone concept, but family always plays an important role in life, most of all in Italy. Perhaps that is why Tonino Lamborghini has dedicated his passion to design and luxury objects that preserve the dynamic and fast-paced character of the Lamborghini family. “I have always loved anything that requires a mechanical approach because it is related to the world of engineering and technology, from which all the members of my family come. From the first steps of my new brand, it was natural for me to create a line of watches. This product represents the exact link between my personal and professional background, the world of mechanics rooted in my origins, and my personal passion for design.”

Since 2016, Mr. Lamborghini has been supported by his first son Ferruccio, CEO of the company. Among the first projects followed entirely in-house by Ferruccio is the Tonino Lamborghini Swiss Watches collection: together with the Italian designer Fulvio Locci and an historic Swiss haute horlogerie manufacturer, Ferruccio Lamborghini has created new automatic models in the medium-high range to complement the best-selling quartz chrono watches with a more accessible positioning. Strictly Swiss made and with a bold design, they are characterised by manufacturing research, ergonomics and performance thanks to titanium components, sapphire crystal with double anti-reflection treatment, Torx® screws and racing elements. And it is precisely from these features that one can read the character and dynamic fascination behind the magnificent watches of the Tonino Lamborghini brand.

A Top Performance Among Automatic Watches

For over 40 years, Tonino Lamborghini has interpreted the universe of Italian style with its watch collections. These beautiful timepieces are inspired by the design of luxury sports cars, from the unique shape of the counters and pushers to the specific choice of colours and materials. Today, however, we would like to focus on the automatic watches, the so-called “Cuscinetto” line. The Cuscinetto is one of Tonino Lamborghini’s first timepieces, inspired in 1983 by a special mechanical component, the ball bearing – what in Italian is called a “cuscinetto”. From that moment on, there is a history of unparalleled design, excellence and precision.

The “Cuscinetto” Model

This model was developed with a special bi-directional rotating bezel whose design is reminiscent of the mechanical element used to reduce friction between two moving parts. The ball bearing is the connecting ring between the first and the new watch collections, between the founder Tonino and his heir Ferruccio, in other words between the past and the future.

This automatic watch made of titanium has a 42 mm case diameter for all “Cuscinetto” versions. The black dial has luminous indexes, a coloured finish and a second hand. The date can be found at 6 o’clock. It features an automatic Swiss Made Sellita SW 200-1 (date) movement, 28,000 vibrations per hour, 26 rubies, 38-hour power reserve. The timepiece has two interchangeable special straps. A black leather strap with coloured stitching and coloured rubber inserts, and an interchangeable black monochrome rubber strap. Stainless steel folding clasp with titanium coating and logo in relief.

The “Cuscinetto R” Model

The “R” version, or racing version, continues the history of the Cuscinetto and pays homage to its sporty and sophisticated evolution. Inspired by the world of motorcycling, the design is bold and daring.

This titanium automatic watch has a 42 mm diameter case and double titanium bridge on the sides for all “Cuscinetto R” versions. This model is most recognisable by its skeletonised fumé sapphire crystal dial with luminous decalque indexes and orange finish. The crown of the watch is located at 12 o’clock and bears the logo of the Miura bull in relief in the shield. This model features an automatic Swiss Made Sellita SW 200-1 movement, branded watch rotor with ruthenium coating, 28,000 vibrations per hour, 26 jewels, 38-hour power reserve. The bracelets also spot the same similarities as the “Cuscinetto” model.
