Watches by Tonino Lamborghini – Not only for Petrolheads

Since the foundation of his homonymous company, the passion for mechanical engineering has moved Mr. Tonino Lamborghini to create a line of cutting-edge design timepieces. The previous experiences in his family’s businesses – from tractors to hydraulic components -, his knowledge of the automotive design and applied mechanics have been the founding values of the Tonino Lamborghini brand’s vision and philosophy. For 39 years, Tonino Lamborghini has been a byword for Made in Italy lifestyle. By staying true to the tradition and story of the Lamborghini family, the Tonino Lamborghini brand seeks to promote distinctive Italian style and taste.

The Italian entrepreneur has developed a lifestyle experience brand with a range of luxury design products, including: watches, eyewear, leather goods, smartphones, perfumes, furniture, clothing, sports accessories, golf & utility carts, signature beverages, 5-star boutique hotels, real estate projects, cafés and restaurants.

We are of course most interested in its high-quality watches, which all boast the legendary bull on their dial.

The story behind Tonino Lamborghini

The mastermind behind the brand is Tonino Lamborghini, heir to the family empire, who laid the foundations for the eponymous lifestyle experience brand in 1981. Equipped with vast experience in the world of mechanical engineering and inspired by his family’s rich heritage, he set himself the goal of producing affordable luxury watches. These should not only pay tribute to the surname “Lamborghini”, but also show typical design elements and the quality of the brand, for which it is appreciated all over the world. He thus decided that all timepieces of the brand must exclusively be Swiss made, from the movements to the manufacturing.

Ferruccio Lamborghini, VP and CEO of Tonino Lamborghini.

Today, Ferruccio Lamborghini, son of Tonino Lamborghini, leads the company as Vice President and CEO. Born in 1991, he represents the 3rd generation of the Lamborghini dynasty and continues the dream of his father, for which he paved the way in 1981. It was also him who introduced a brand-new watch collection in 2019. For this, he obtained renowned expertise. The designs, for instance, were co-created with the Italian designer Fulvio Locci, who has been active in the watch industry since 1985 already.

With Armand Nicolet, Tonino Lamborghini places its trust in one of the oldest Swiss watchmaker, with roots going back more than 140 years. In 1875, watchmaker Armand Nicolet founded his “Atelier d’Horlogerie” in Tramelan, a mountain village in the Bernese Jura.

4 Collections for all scenarios

Today, the brand’s watch line-up consists of four lines. Let us quickly take a look at each of them:

Cuscinetto

Cuscinetto, the Italian word for ball bearing, is not only an indispensable element in mechanical engineering. No, it was also this handy rolling-element bearing that gave the watch collection of the same name its characteristic appearance when it was first introduced in 1983. In particular, the unidirectional rotating bezel is a popular design feature that makes both the Cuscinetto and the more sportive version, Cuscinetto R, recognizable at first glance.

Panfilo

Although the Lamborghinis are primarily associated with the streets of the world, the watches in the Panfilo collection are made for swimmers and sea lovers alike. It goes without saying that they meet all the requirements that one would expect from a state-of-the-art dive watch today. The titanium cases, optionally available with black PVD coating, are water-resistant to 300m and guarantee instant readability thanks to a diameter of 44mm. The hands are highly luminescent and the unidirectional grippy rotating bezel is a bliss to operate. The defining elements, however, are the four visible Torx®screws and the holes in the lugs, paying tribute to the brand’s mechanical engineering background.

Spyderleggero

The name says it all: leggero (lightweight) refers to the flyweight of the watches, which they owe to their titanium case. The Spyderleggero chronographs are among the brand’s absolute bestsellers with their striking case that is defined by the 8 Torx®screws along the bezel. The Skeleton version also showcases the heart of the watch and the branded watch rotor from the skeletonized back case.

Quartz Chronographs

The Spyder watch, developed in 2008 by the Tonino Lamborghini Centro Stile, was created as a homage to the shield that encloses the famous “Miura raging bull” in the brand’s logo. During the years, this timepiece has seen several evolutions of color and shape variations. The latest versions of the new collection, Spyder and Spyder X, mount quartz movements. Furthermore, the GT1 chronograph features pushers reminiscent of the gas and brake pedals of sports cars.

  2. Wait, …what? Lamborghini hasn´t been so far on the top of my list when it comes to watches. The Spyderleggero is an eye-catcher, but when it comes to everyday use, I´d prefer the “boring” Panfilo – just as with the cars Urus vs Huracan
