It could be due to genetically modified viruses or due to artificial intelligence, but whatever the trigger may be, Stephen Hawking knew one thing for sure during his lifetime: Sooner or later the escape into space will be inevitable for the human race.
It is precisely because of this that Mars is more relevant today than ever before. As a result of its similarity to Earth, our neighboring planet is a hot contender for the title “Earth 2.0,” even if the resettlement of mankind is currently still more of a pipe dream.
This does not stop the Austrian Space Forum (ÖWF) from developing technologies that could soon enable manned missions to the myth-enshrouded Red Planet. Right by its side: the Swiss watch manufacturer Fortis.
There when it happens
Already for the third time, the ÖWF is in preparation for a simulated Mars mission in a so-called “terrestrial Mars analog environment”. For this purpose, six astronauts – completely isolated from the outside world for one month – will test new technologies and equipment in Israel’s Ramon crater in October this year.
As the official supplier of the ÖWF, Fortis contributes a watch that has been tailored to the needs of the astronauts down to the smallest detail: the Fortis Official Cosmonauts Chronograph AMADEE-20.
As the sole cosmonaut outfitter for Russian Roskosmos expeditions into space, the engineers and watchmakers at Fortis know only too well what matters in a space-qualified watch – and it’s safe to say that the brand has once again demonstrated how “never standing still” is interpreted in Grenchen.
The new AMADEE-20 in action:
We took this as an opportunity to put the “tool-y” chronograph through its paces, paying particular attention to its many design elements that make the life of astronauts so much easier.

What a great looking watch and nice video.
I think the only point of criticism I have is that they didn’t opt for the Kenissi movement. Otherwise a stunning piece from Grenchen.

Nice watch indeed! Although a tiny bit too chunky, I guess that’s ok though for a tool watch however too big for many wrists I think.
Sold out already :/ I hope they’ll manage to re-stock soon.
Very cool review, thumbs up!
