Breitling and Bentley: When luxury and luxury come together

Luxury cars and luxury watches, they just go together. Breitling and Bentley certainly thought so when they partnered in 2003. Back then, Breitling’s watch experts were allowed to design a dashboard clock for the Bentley Continental GT – a superb tourer which is known as the preferred ride of many professional footballers. But really this luxury connection has existed for 70 years, from the time when Willy Breitling, grandson of the founder Léon Breitling and owner of many Bentleys, did his best to make the roads between Geneva and La-Chaux-de-Fonds unsafe. It may be debatable whether this could really be considered the beginning of the relationship between the two companies, but whatever the case may be the fact is that the collaboration has born fruit in the form of many watch models. Here we look at three current examples:

Premier Bentley Mulliner Limited Edition

The design of the Bentley Continental GT Mulliner Convertible was the basis for Breitling’s Premier Bentley Mulliner Limited Edition. The watch also commemorates 17 years of collaboration between Breitling and Bentley. The Mulliner represents Bentley’s special department, in which the venerable mark’s standard vehicles have been customizable for more than 60 years.

The Premier Bentley Mulliner Limited Edition, limited to 1,000 pieces, has a silver dial reminiscent of the clock on the dashboard of the Bentley Continental GT Mulliner Convertible. The Arabic numerals of the two timepieces complement each other; the wristwatch shows the numbers 1, 2, 4, 5, 7, 8 and 10, whereas the numbers 12, 3, 6 and 9 can be read on the dashboard clock. This stylistic similarity is intended to express the common design DNA, which is also reflected in the “Bentley” engraving on the left side of the watch case.

Premier B01 Chronograph 42 Bentley British Racing Green

The Premier B01 Chronograph 42 Bentley British Racing Green is a bit more elegant. The dial in British Racing Green presents as particularly striking, and symbolizes the cooperation between the two luxury brands. The racing theme is continued with a green nubuck band. In addition, the watch has a plate engraved with the label “Bentley,” which is based on the design of the dashboard of the historic Bentley Blower from 1929.

Through the sapphire glass caseback you can espy the Breitling-Manufaktur 01, a self-winding chronograph caliber with chronometer certification.

Premier B01 Chronograph 42 Bentley Centenary Limited Edition

The dial of the Premier Bentley Centenary Limited Edition is made of brown elm root wood. Here too the design was inspired by the Bentley Blower from 1929, in this case its wooden dashboard.

The Premier Bentley Centenary Limited Edition has also been given a Breilting in-house caliber 01. On the caseback there is a reference to the watch’s limited edition, with the engraving “1 OF 1000”.
