In 1972, the first Audemars Piguet Royal Oak saw the light of day and only a few years later, in 1976, the Nautilus from Patek Philippe followed. A new type of watch was officially born: the luxury stainless steel sports watch.
Another watch from this era, although much less famous (and less luxurious), was the PRX model by Tissot. This watch, too, picked up on Gérald Genta‘s characteristic design features, such as the integrated bracelet and sleek stainless steel case, when it was introduced in 1978, but it became nowhere near as popular as its stylistic rolemodels.
This is now to change with the new PRX 40 205, which Tissot has just reissued after more than 40 years of existence.
Precise (P), robust (R) and water-resistant up to 10 bar (X), that’s what the original PRX stood for when it was introduced. Well, guess what, these are precisely the values you can expect from the 2021 reissue as well – in a more modern overall package, of course.
What has remained is the slim case as well as the narrow indexes, which feature SuperLumiNova® coating. The characteristic, aggressively tapered steel bracelet has also once again been integrated into the tonneau-shaped 40mm case, as you would expect from sports watches of this era. The strap moreover features a butterfly deployant clasp with pushers.
As with the original, the new PRX 40 205 uses a quartz movement (ETA F06.115) inside, although Tissot will most likely soon follow up with an automatic movement version.
The Tissot PRX 40 205 Quartz is currently available in three colors: black, blue and silver-gray. While the first two variants rely on a dial with sunburst finish and silver hour markers, the latter features a brushed dial with rose gold-colored hour markers and hands, which captures the 1970s zeitgeist particularly well in our opinion.
We will offer the all-new Tissot PRX watches in our online store very soon. If you have any questions regarding availability and price in the meantime, do not hesitate to drop our customer service team a line.
