Visiting Eberhard & Co. in Switzerland: Pioneering chronographs, a GPHG-winning dive watch and more!

To fully grasp the history of Eberhard & Co., one first has to rewind quite a bit: It was in 1887 when Georges-Lucien Eberhard, at that time only 22 years of age, decided to found his own watch brand with great hopes and an even greater drive. In its early years, the brand was called Manufacture d’Horlogerie Eberhard & Co. and has moved into the historic “Maison de l’Aigle” building (engl.: Eagle House) in 1907.

Even today, more than 100 years later, one inevitably looks up in awe when standing in front of the building’s façade. On its top, you will still find the the impressive eagle with its open wings as a sign of resilience and iron will, looking down on the Avenue Léopold-Robert in La Chaux-de-Fonds.

More than just precise timekeeping

First and foremost, Eberhard & Co. certainly stands for precise time keeping instruments. The first wristwatch chronograph already launched back in 1919, which served as a source of inspiration for many other Eberhard collections to come. Although most of them were of a sporty nature, the brand developed more futuristic and even revolutionary watches as well, as one model in particular proved in 2001: The “Chrono 4” was the first chronograph of its kind whose four counters were arranged horizontally in a row – a technical and aesthetic first.

Although Eberhard & Co. has extensively developed more than 10 collections over the years to suit every taste, from elegant dress watches to robust sports chronographs, one model received a truly special honor in 2016: the Scafograf 300. It was awarded the coveted GPHG Award in the category “Sports Watch”, once again underlining Eberhard & Co.’s efforts in the field of high-performance dive watches (who date back to the first Scafograf model in 1959).

Meet the Manufacturer

These days, Barbara Monti and Mario Peserico are successfully steering the company through an ever volatile industry. We have therefore met with Mr. Peserico in the only adequate place that does justice to the company’s rich history in order to learn more about Eberhard & Co.: the brand’s in-house museum, displaying exhibits from over 130 years of Swiss watchmaking history. Enjoy!

As an authorized retailer, all watches are available in our Eberhard & Co. Boutique. (As a Montredo customer, you even benefit from a third year of full manufacturer’s warranty.)

  1. What an underrated brand. Although I do not always fully agree with their price policy, I think they have some amazing pieces in their portfolio that really fly under the radar (not to mention their vintage ones). I think the Scafograf 300 in 38-39 mm could be a winner.
