The original is back!
A true legend among stopwatches – the “original” from Hanhart is coming back, after more than 60 years. Originally produced for the German Armed Forces, the Hanhart Pilot’s Chronograph 417 ES is now available with the style-defining elements of yesteryear matched with the technology of today in a historic 39 mm size. The 417 ES 1954, who’s letters stand for “Edelstahl”, or “stainless steel” in English, and who’s numbers marks the first year of production, impresses with its robustness, reliability as well as readability – successfully reinterpreting the original whilst retaining the fine details of the 1950s.
Let’s take a closer look at this promising timepiece: at first glance, the sharply drawn and polished bevels that mark the transition from the satin-finished horns to the flanks are striking. The fluted bezel rotates continuously in both directions (typical of Hanhart), and the red position marker is just as reminiscent of the original 1950s model as the details on the dial of the watch: the bi-compax layout and lettering, the numbers, fonts and the historical brand lettering have all been adopted. What is new is the water resistance to 10 bar, 58-hour power autonomy and the hand-wound calibre offering a Swiss Made quality.
The iconic design of the traditional brand from the Black Forest, which celebrated the re-release of the 417 ES in 42 mm a few years ago, together with the comfortable calfskin strap coated with Alcantara on the inside, makes the watch wearable for any occasion and simultaneously being eye-catching whilst somehow offering a nice understated design. Hanhart has thus packed the best of then with that of now into a wearable, reliable watch with distinctive features.
