Traditional Saxon windmills?

At the recently wrapped up Inhorgenta in Munich, Mühle Glashütte presented a new model in its sailing-inspired 29er collection, the 29er Casual. The most striking change, and what really captured our attention, is the refreshingly low profile of this new watch – only 9.35 mm thick and 42.4 mm in diameter. There remains a sporty character – we are, after all, dealing with a Mühle Glashütte here – but thanks to its dimensions the Casual is equally fitting kit for urban sailors charting the course of their daily work routine.

Being shallow isn’t always such a bad thing

Mühle Glashütte has salt water in its veins. The brand is already well known for its sporty nautical watches, and now proudly carries the tradition forward. The 29er series is named after a dinghy used by young sailors training for the 49er class in the Olympic Games. Following this tack, the 29er watches can be seen as an entry into the world of sophisticated Glashütte timepieces, and despite the relatively low prices they still manage to offer key features such as 100m water resistance and precision mechanical movements.

The present 29 series, though, offers only relatively chunky watches, none of which really complements the business casual uniform of the young city dweller. This lack has now been remedied with the 29er Casual which, with its flat case of brushed stainless steel, scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, dark blue dial with date window and luminescent hands and hour markers, is the slimmest watch that Mühle Glashütte has ever built.
