TAG Heuer has been in the Smartwatch business since 2015, and was one of the first Swiss companies to recognize the trend. Now the time has come for the third generation of TAG Heuer Connected, which is systematically focusing on the strengths of the brand from La Chaux-de-Fonds.
With a diameter of 45mm and a height of 13.5mm, the size is certainly a little chunky for lovers of classic watches, but it is certainly appropriate for a Smartwatch: the large, sharp and bright OLED touch screen needs to be operated comfortably. The design is also reminiscent of the Formula 1 series, with a minute counter on the bezel, a crown and two push buttons (arranged as on a classic chronograph) make usage even more comfortable to the wearer.
For this generation of Connected, TAG Heuer has recognized that sensible task sharing results in a better product: They have concentrated on designing a perfectly manufactured case that weighs less than 100g depending on the model and is packed with technology such as GPS, NFC (for payment by watch) and heart rate monitor, leaving enough space for a battery that can withstand 6 hours of competitive sports or that only needs to be recharged in the evening for a workout of 1 hour per day.
The software found on the watch is based on Google’s Wear OS, which can be added to the TAG Heuer Connected App, both on the watch itself and on the connected smartphone. This grants the wearer useful functions such as analyzing thier workouts and health, or allows the setting of one of the many exclusive TAG Heuer dials.
There are three case variants to choose from: two in stainless steel with a light or black PVD-coated bezel, or a particularly light model in black PVD-coated titanium. For the first two variants, there is still the choice between stainless steel or black rubber strap, whilst the latter is also intended for the titanium case. Prices start from € 1,700 for the steel case variant with rubber strap.
