In this new episode of Watch Stories we’re going to take you on a breathtaking journey to the world of Max Bill. The legendary Swiss artist designed an iconic collection of Junghans watches that, half a century later, are very sought after by collectors due both to their pioneering designs and rarity.
The watch that we’re going to present today is a hand-wind example from 1962, more specifically, the hand wound version with a gold plated case. Just like the reissue model, the watch is 34 millimetres in diameter and can be worn by both ladies and gentlemen alike.
Originally manufactured at the beginning of the 1960’s (61/62-63), it was relaunched in 1997 and is now also offered as a quartz model (next to the hand-wind and automatic version). The hand wound model rings in with a case measurement of 34 mm, while the self-winding watch clocks in at 38 mm. Added to that, there is also a chronograph with a case diameter of 40 mm.
Each version is offered with both a stainless steel and gold plated case and with plain indexes as well as with Arabic numerals (the latter featuring the famous “Max Bill 4” that is also seen in the video). The watch is offered with different straps, namely stainless steel mesh and varying types of calf leather. The ladies model is available in different colours, among which are a light blue or a variation completely in white.
